Just like humans, pets can experience a variety of eye (ocular) diseases and disorders that can negatively affect their quality of life. Memphis Veterinary Specialists offers pet ophthalmology services for dogs, cats, and horses. We are pleased to have a new ophthalmologist, Dr. Jane Ashley Huey, on the team to provide these services. Ophthalmology involves studying and treating diseases and disorders of the eye, such as glaucoma and dry eye.
About Our Ophthalmology Services
Because there are certain pet eye conditions that can be reversed if they’re diagnosed in their early stages, we place a strong emphasis on the diagnostic portion of our pet ophthalmology services. This is especially important for certain breeds that are more inherently susceptible to eye problems than others. By partnering with your pet’s regular veterinarian, we can develop a cutting-edge approach to diagnose and manage your pet’s eye needs.
At Memphis Veterinary Specialists, we can diagnose and treat virtually any eye disease or condition, with special consideration to the visible symptoms. Some of the most common eye problems we treat include:
- Vision loss
- Eyelid issues
- Dry eye
Most Common Symptoms of Eye Problems
While there are some eye problems that can be easily detected by their symptoms, there are others that are subtler. Consider the list below of some of the most common symptoms related to a pet’s eyes that could indicate an eye disease or disorder:
- Tearing/tear-stained fur
- Rubbing of the eyes
- Change in eye color
- Visible third eyelid
